For people that have hemorrhoid flare-ups, there are few things as painful and irritating. They can bleed, itch, and hurt quite a bit. If the hemorrhoids become thrombosed, then they may have to be removed with surgery. This is extremely painful, and is caused when the supply of blood is cut off to the hemorrhoid. This makes a blood clot form in the hemorrhoid. It is so painful because there is pressure exerted on the nerves and tissues due to the blood.
Hemorrhoids are just blood vessels that are swollen around and inside the anal sphincter, that stretches under pressure. Pregnant women often get hemorrhoids due to the strain on the ano-rectal blood vessels. People with a family history are more likely to get them, and also sitting or standing too much can cause them as well.
Hemorrhoids can be external or internal. Internal hemorrhoids have to do with the veins that are found in the rectum. When an internal hemorrhoid stretches out of the anus, it is prolapsed. Sometimes, it goes back in on its own, or sometimes needs to be carefully pushed back in.
